What is a skill? Why add them?
When creating a job, you can add the skills you would like your ideal candidate to have.
Skills refer to technical requirements or responsibilities of the job and does not refer to soft skills. An example of a skill for a accountant would be "Payroll Tax" or "Financial Reporting". Soft skills such as being a good communicator or being detailed oriented will be assessed in the Organisation Fit part of their application (and interviews).
How to add skills preferences to your job
- Start by creating a job and continue to the job profile page (or edit a job that is still in draft)
- Click on the Skills Fit section on the left menu
- Start typing the name of a skill in the Skills name field to find and select your desired skill. If you cannot find the skill once you have typed it in full, you can click Create a new skill at the top of the drop down. You can add more than one skill to a single field (see note below)
- You can also add a skills from the Choose suggested skills list at the top of the page. Clicking on a skill will add a new separate skill to your Skills Fit.
- Add the minimum years of experience (1 -8) you would like the candidate to have with the skill(s), and importance level for each of the skills using the slider.
- Click on the "+ Another skill" button to add more skills.
- Click the "Save and continue" button when you are finished
NOTE: Place multiple skills in a single field if you want the same years of experience, and you consider them to be equally important, i.e., a candidate with all skills will rank equally to a candidate with just one. Otherwise, place skills in different fields if you require differing years of experience, or you wish to indicate that having these additional skills will rank a candidate higher.
TIP: We recommend that you only add the important or critical skills required for the job. The more skills you add, the less effective the software will be at separating the good from the average candidates. So keep it to a minimum.
The candidate's score for skills will be calculated based on the number of matched skills weighted by their importance and years of experience.
