Interview guides are built using a simple wizard. You can let AI generate the content based on context you provide such as a position description, build the guide manually, or upload an existing guide document and have Compono Assist generate the interview guide. Either way, you end up with a structured guide ready to assign to interviews.
To begin creating your interview guide:
Go to Settings > Interview Guides
Click "Create Interview Guide" (top right corner of page) to get started.
-
Choose how you want to start creating your interview guide
Use Compono Assist - the quickest and easiest way to begin if you don't have an existing guide. The Compono Assist AI creates most of the content for you.
Start from Scratch - manually build the guide from scratch with no AI assistance.
Recreate from an existing guide - Upload your existing guide document and the Compono Assist AI generates the interview guide using the Compono structure.
Workflow Example
This example uses the "Use Compono Assist" option to demonstrate the structure and content of the interview guide. With this option, much of the guide content is automatically generated. If you are starting from scratch, you'll need to add and create the individual components of the guide content manually. The structure of the guide will be the same.
Step 1: Basic Details
| Field | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
Guide Name |
Yes |
A descriptive name for the guide (e.g., "Senior PM - Final Round") |
Job Title |
No |
Select from the dropdown to tag the guide to a specific role |
Division |
No |
Select from the dropdown to organise the guide by team or business unit |
Interview Purpose |
No |
Multi-select from: Screening, Technical / Skills, Behavioural / Problem Solving, Culture & Alignment, Final Selection, General / Mixed |
When to Use This Guide |
No |
Free-text describing the intended scenario (e.g., "For panel interviews where all interviewers are from the same team") |
Step 2: Guide Structure
Choose which optional sections to include in your guide:
Pre-Interview Guidance: A preparation checklist for interviewers to work through before the interview begins. This helps every interviewer arrive prepared and reduces the chance of key steps being missed.
Key Competencies: A section outlining the core competencies being assessed. Useful for keeping the panel aligned on what they are actually evaluating.
Step 3: AI Content Generation
This is where the Compono Assist AI does the heavy lifting. With AI generation enabled, you can provide context about the role, and the system will generate a complete set of tailored interview questions with scoring guides ready to use.
AI Generation Toggle:
On by default. When enabled, the 5 sections below become available.
If you disable AI generation, these 5 sections disappear, and the workflow will revert to the "Start from Scratch" option when clicking on the "Generate & Build Guide" button at the bottom of the page. You will be required to manually add the content into the guide.
1. Position Description
Drag and drop a file (.txt, .doc, .docx, .pdf) or paste the job description directly
The AI uses this to tailor questions to the specific role. The more detail you provide, the more relevant the output
2. Rapport Building
Toggle this on to include ice-breaker questions at the start of the interview. A simple way to help candidates settle in before the structured questions begin.
3. Focus Areas
Select which candidate key selection criteria you want the AI to focus on when generating questions. This is based on the KSSARTI framework, a structured approach to assessing candidates across seven key areas.
| Topic | What it assesses? |
Knowledge (The "What") |
Information gained through education and experience, including degrees, certifications, industry regulations, and technical facts |
Skills (The "How") |
Specific tasks learned through repetition, such as software proficiency, language fluency, and technical writing |
Social Qualities (The "Who with others") |
How a candidate works with others, including conflict resolution, networking, and team collaboration |
Abilities (The "Potential") |
Natural or ingrained capacities that are harder to teach, such as critical thinking and working under pressure |
Resources (The "Extra Value") |
External assets the candidate brings immediately, such as a professional network, high-level contacts, or unique tools |
Traits (The "Hardwiring") |
Consistent patterns of behaviour and work ethic, such as reliability, adaptability, and curiosity |
Interests (The "Why") |
The culture fit component that predicts long-term retention, including career goals and passion for the industry |
4. Guide Length
Choose how many questions to generate, by question count or interview duration:
5. Expected Response Format
Choose a framework for structuring candidate responses. This shapes how questions are worded and what interviewers should listen for:
None: No specific framework
STAR: Situation, Task, Action, Result
CAR: Context, Action, Result
