Experience and Skills

Share your experience and skills with the employer

Add your previous work experience and skills by adding the following information 

  • Your job title
  • The company’s name at which you worked
  • When you started and completed work there
  • The work areas related to the job
  • The skills you used in the job 

To add work experience and skills: 

  1. Log in to your Compono account
  2. Click on the “Profile” option on the navigation bar at the top of the page
  3. Scroll down to the “Your work background" section
  4. Under "Experience and skills", click on "Add >"
  5. Fill in the job title
  6. Fill in the name of the company
  7. Insert when you started and completed the job (check “I currently work here” if the job is your current job)
  8. Select the work areas related to you job
  9. Add skills you used in the job by selecting from the clickable suggested skills, or by searching for your skill in the text box. If you cannot find the skill, type the name of the skill in full and then select “+ create …” just above the text 
  10. Click Save

Once you have saved your entry, you can add further experience and skills by repeating the same process starting at step 4 above. You can also go back and edit or delete previously saved entries. To delete an entry, first click on the pencil icon to edit, then click on the rubbish icon to delete.

Work areas

This section is about understanding areas where you have gained your experience in. For example, if you’re an accountant - what type of accounting field best describes your experience? Forensic Accounting, Tax Accounting or some other area of accounting?

It's important to note that this is less to do with industry experience, but rather the technical area or classification of your experience. For example, if you worked in the retail industry as a graphic designer. your work area is 'Graphic Design', not Retail. Note that you can choose more than one work area.  

Skills

Skills refer to  the technical aspects of performing your job. This could be:

  • Your experience in a certain field, e.g., as an accountant in a law firm, you might have technical skills in Fringe Benefit Tax .
  • Specific tools (software/hardware/machinery) used in your job, e.g., in accounting you may use MYOB, or if you’re in mining/heavy industry you might have operated a Cat D11 Dozer. 

We suggest that you search for varying terms to help you understand what are considered skills. Add as many skills as you can so your profile is full and complete.
